Internet Explorer: Remove gray squares around links (Windows Phone 8)

Testing an existing Cordova / PhoneGap application (Android) on Windows Phone 8, I stumbled upon some irritating gray squares by tapping / clicking on links.

The following meta element seems to fix this issue:
